The guy behind Leftpedal.co.uk Wojtek Popiel used to run his own bike shop and website for selling mainly new bikes so he knows a thing or two about the bike business!
One of the things he knows is that bike shop owners sometimes find it difficult to clear surplus stock and also to sell second hand bikes taken in part exchange for new bikes. Generalist sales websites are notorious for stolen bikes and decent bikes get driven out by dross that you really don’t want to get involved with. Leftpedal.co.uk is designed to help customers find the bike they are looking for AND to help shops reach people beyond their normal customer base – a bike shop in South London can advertise directly to someone at the far end of the country – or even North London!
We are also allowing individuals to advertise their bikes – but will be monitoring to try to avoid the thieves and scammers that advertise elsewhere (but please use caution purchasing from private individuals as we cannot guarantee that bad apples won’t try to exploit the platform!).
As well as providing the platform for sellers and buyers we will be bringing together information we think will be interesting to cyclists – whether that is about events, news or fun facts! We want to make the site somewhere you would like to spend time even if you are not currently in the market for a bike
How it works
To advertise you simply become a member giving us some basic details of how to contact you. You can then set up your adverts on the platform. Note that by advertising you are giving permission to share your contact details with potential purchasers via the website.
To buy, you browse and if you see something you are interested in you click it! If you are not yet a member, you will be asked to sign up – this is free and all you have to provide is a valid email, username and password. Once you are a member you will see all of the details of the bike provided by the seller. You will also see their contact details and you can either contact them directly or fill in a contact form.
Once buyer and seller are connected, Leftpedal.co.uk has done its bit. We are the matchmaker! If the two parties are happy they agree the payment method and delivery – this does not involve Leftpedal.co.uk so buyers are asked to take appropriate steps to protect themselves like paying by credit card or Paypal if they are not dealing with an established shop or meeting the vendor face to face.
